Although this adorable youngster is not interested in hunting, golden retrievers were originally developed to assist hunters in retrieving ducks and other birds after they had shot them.

Not at all, in fact.

An friendly duck that resides in a pond beside McGee’s home has been his greatest buddy since he was six years old.

The duck, known as “Daffy” by McGee’s pet-dad, spontaneously approached the amiable dog and insisted on hanging out with him, thus McGee made friends with Daffy.

Evan Hastings, McGee’s pet-dad, believes the wild duck was lonely and felt McGee appeared kind.

For whatever reason, McGee was the target of Daffy’s attention, and the dog would not be content until the dog had consented to be his closest buddy.

Now, McGee and the duck are together for the most of the day.

In the mornings, Daffy and McGee generously share their meal before taking naps and taking sunbathes together on the lush grass.

Or, in the case of Daffy, on McGee’s soft back.

Every night, Daffy and McGee swim around in the pond together and enjoy each others company, and when it is time to get out of the water, Daffy always wants to sit on McGee’s back and ride back up on the shore.
Daffy enjoys riding on McGee’s back when the latter is swimming in the pond, in addition to sleeping on top of it.

Every night, Daffy and McGee enjoy a leisurely dip in the pond together. When it’s time to exit the water, Daffy always wants to ride back up the shore on McGee’s back.

Overall, Daffy’s need for attention and clinginess don’t appear to bother McGee.

Hastings believes that McGee sometimes becomes irritated by Daffy’s tendency to peck at him, but McGee is very tolerant with the attention-seeking duck.
