That was the situation with Acorn, who spent over two years at a shelter while waiting for his home before his wish was fulfilled recently.
The Outer Banks SPCA in North Carolina took care of Acorn for 633 days. He lived in the shelter the longest, per a Facebook post.
It would have been simple to give up on Acorn since it is a long period for any dog to spend at a shelter. But the animal shelter persisted in waiting, hoping that this devoted dog’s day would eventually arrive.
Their perseverance paid off this weekend since Acorn was eventually adopted, according to a statement from the Outer Banks SPCA on March 18!
“We have been hoping and waiting for this moment for a very long time,” they said.
A long-time shelter dog eventually finding their permanent home is often a sad experience for the staff, especially Acorn’s committed volunteer Brad, who has “become so attached to Acorn over the last several years.
Even yet, it was a joyful occasion because it was the long-awaited day, they had all been waiting for: “We remained hopeful that one day the right person would take the time with him and give him the home he deserves, and our wish came true!”
It is terrible that some dogs have to wait an excessive amount of time to find loving homes. But now that the Acorn wait is over, we are very happy.
